Travel from Brisbane by private minibus and vehicle ferry before exploring the island with your local tour guide. Walk the spectacular North Gorge at Point Lookout (Mulumba), with sweeping coastal views and opportunities to spot kangaroos, dolphins, turtles and other marine life. From June to November, look out for migrating humpback whales from this incredible land-based vantage point.
Stop for a picnic-style lunch at a Point Lookout icon — The Prawn Shack, a famous hole-in-the-wall prawn shack known for its Straddie Prawn Roll — enjoyed overlooking beautiful Frenchmans Beach. Includes a cold drink, with gluten-free, shellfish-free and vegan options available.
Continue to two special freshwater environments: the amber-coloured waters of Bummiera (Brown Lake), a naturally occurring perched lake of cultural significance to the Quandamooka People, and Myora Springs (Capembah), a naturally flowing freshwater spring and wetland with a long connection to Quandamooka people and the island's history.
Later, Quandamooka man Matt Burns joins the group for an immersive 90-minute cultural experience — a Welcome to Country, family artefacts, and demonstrations of fire-making, spear throwing, didgeridoo and traditional ochres, plus bush tucker, traditional medicines and native plant knowledge. You will even get the chance to try throwing a boomerang yourself.
